Top 200 off-beat destinations in India by year end 2008

Mumbai, January 10, 2008: Travelguru – India’s Largest Hotel Network today officially announced the launch of its 'Travel Guide' product. The aim is to introduce users to the top travel destinations in India which hold great tourism potential. The initial emphasis will be on off-beat destinations, and the product will expand to encompass all key destinations within India. The e-guide provides in-depth information, as well as instantly bookable travel packages for these unusual destinations.

Through the Travel Guide, one can search for places to visit either by theme (Adventure, Beaches, Heritage, Hills, Leisure, Pilgrimage, Wildlife) or by destination (North, East, South, West). The destinations are comprehended under different heads, namely, Editor's Note, Fast facts, What to see, Gourmet Feasts, Shopping Delights, Festive Celebrations, Staying there, Getting There and Trivia.

According to Hari Krishnan, Vice President - Product and Marketing, Travelguru.com, "Travelguru is looking to offer about 100 Indian destinations by end of March 2008 and by December this year the target is to touch the 200-mark. We had a soft launch of the Destination Guide programme in mid-December, 2007 with 20 off-beat domestic destinations."

"Travelguru has an in-house expert team in place which provides in-depth information about each of these off-beat destinations in India. In fact, we also did an internal research with selective clients to decide on the unusual destinations. We have also chosen to share the data in the most relevant fashion for travel planning. For instance, the Fast Facts section gives a quick snapshot on the best season to visit, the weather year-round, how to travel within the destination and what to wear," said Krishnan. He claims that the portal witnessed a 150 per cent growth after the launch of its 'Hotel Ka Guru' marketing initiative in September, 2007. “It provided us with a strong image as the largest player for hotels in India, and the one with the most relevant destination knowledge. This year, our plan is to come up with more such innovative initiatives", he added.

This product will help the consumers plan their getaways for year 2008 in a much more systematic manner. The data is organized and easy to digest, it is at the same time credible and authentic and has been put together using the great in-depth research and experience of the Travelguru destination experts.
