Corbett National Park is an enchanting land with an amazingly diversified wildlife and a spectacular landscape. This is one of the best places to let loose your adventurous spirit and head on to an amazing tour of wildlife. Follow pugmarks and try your skills at spotting the elusive big cat, the majestic Tiger or even its cousin, the leopard. Check out herds of huge Asiatic elephants and a varied variety of deer. Move on to the water bodies to find mugger and ghariyal. And if you love watching birds, Corbett is home to some of the rarest and most beautiful species. You can also obtain permission to fish in the rivers around the park and carry home the coveted golden mahseer. A perfect opportunity to explore all its wonders!

• Animal Kingdom: Wildlife is of course the major attraction in the Park with almost 50 species of animals making this park their natural habitat. The most celebrated of all is of course the endangered tiger, which is being protected here. Another popular resident in Corbett is the leopard. The Asian elephant is also part of the Corbett family as well as a variety of deer, including chital, hog deer, sambar and barking deer. Other animals that can be spotted here are sloth and Himalayan black bears, Indian grey mongoose, otters, yellow-throated martens, Indian pangolins, and langur and rhesus monkeys.

• Bird Life: Corbett is said to have one of the widest variety of avifauna in the country with around 600 species of rare and endangered birds being protected here. Some rare species that can be spotted here are crested serpent eagles, blossom headed parakeet and the red jungle fowl. Numerous migratory birds from East Africa, Europe and Central Asia find a home here. Several rare Himalayan birds like the flycatchers, great barbet and the wallcreeper can be seen here too.

• Reptiles: Corbett is one of the best places to spot rare crocodile species. Gharial and Mugger are found here in good numbers. These reptiles, once on the verge of extinction, were given a new lease of life when captive breeding programs were launched and these artificially bred crocodiles released into the Ramganga River.

• Fishes: A large number of freshwater fish have found their natural habitat in the numerous water bodies that dot the entire landscape of Corbett National Park. The Ramganga, Palain, Sonanadi and Mandal Rivers are the most important breeding grounds for them. It is always a delight to spot the Golden Mahseer, a large freshwater river fish, which is also considered one of the most prized fish for anglers all over the world. Other important fishes are Goonch, Indian trout and Rohu.

• Corbett Waterfall: A spot worth visiting inside the Corbett Park is the Corbett Waterfall. The fall gives out a spectacular sight as it drops from a height of almost 20 meters. Its backdrop is amazingly attractive too, considering the dense forestation. A number of camping sites are present in and around the area.

• Kaladhungi Museum: The museum is housed in a bungalow which once served as the residence of the hunter-cum-naturalist, Jim Corbett, after whom the Park is named. It houses memorabilia of this great man. It is especially interesting to take a tour of his collections of rifle cases, hats, fishing nets, photographs and letters.

• Jungle Safari: The best way to make the most of this wild experience, hire a jeep for an early morning safari. These jeeps come with an expert driver and a nature guide. The safaris also include tiger tracking by pugmark recognition. An Elephant Safari is an all new experience to mount a mighty beast and explore the wilderness. Along with wildlife viewing, special safaris can also be arranged for viewing birds accompanied by expert drivers and jungle guides who take you around various spots.

• Fishing & Angling: The Kosi & Ramganga Rivers are ideal for fishing for the golden mahaseer. You require prior permission to fish though.

Corbett has no dearth of good eating places, with most of them attached to major hotels and resorts. Gurney House is a nice place to enjoy an Indian, Chinese or Continental cuisine. The restaurant even serves its guests on an open deck-area adjacent to the restaurant overlooking the Kosi River. Jim’s Grill is a concept restaurant with a machaan-like structure. Sampling the chef’s grilled delicacies is a must when in Corbett. The Tusker Bar is a theme bar with an assorted collection of beverages. Jim’s Jungle Retreat is a fun place to enjoy a camp-style barbeque dinner. Non-vegetarian food and alcohol are a strict no within the park limits.
